Acupuncture

is the insertion of very thin, sterile needles at certain points on the body, which serves to redirect the body’s flow of “qi,” (pronounced “chee”) to a more healthy state, and thus stop the pain, anxiety, digestive disturbances, or other ailments for which you are seeking help.  Acupuncture is an extremely effective modality to treat many ailments. At Twelve Rivers Acupuncture, we use many styles of acupuncture. Master Tung Style and Dr. Tan’s balance method are acupuncture systems that use needles at distal locations (for example points needled in the hand to treat low back pain). Often, patients are surprised to feel pain instantly reduce or go away with these styles of acupuncture.

More modern, orthopedic styles, sometimes called trigger point acupuncture or even dry needling, utilize needles directly in dysfunctional muscles to restore muscle function to treat pain. Electro stimulation of muscles is sometimes used with this style of acupuncture.

TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) - style acupuncture is a widely practiced methodology of treating illness in the body, and is often used with great success, either by itself or in adjunct with another modality.
