Pain Neutralization Technique (PNT)

Pain Neutralization Technique (PNT) is a non-pharmacological, non-invasive technique for pain neutralization developed by Dr. Steven Kaufman, DC, LAc.  The technique uses light pressure with the fingertips to gently manipulate soft tissue to “turn off” nerve-based reflexes that perpetuate muscle pain and painful trigger points.  It is proving to be especially effective in treating chronic pain.

PNT does not use needles, mechanical force, or painful trigger-point therapies.  Rather, it uses gentle pressure applied with the fingertips to change and modulate the information the brain receives from nerve junctions in the muscles.  Often, patients experience permanent relief from chronic pain, which they may have dealt with for decades, in only a few treatments.

Beth Leatherman is an advanced practitioner of PNT, and has studied with Dr. Kaufman in Denver, CO since 2017.  She has helped many patients get relief from chronic pain with this technique.  Conditions that respond very well to PNT include:

  • neck pain

  • headaches

  • torn meniscus

  • knee osteoarthritis

  • low back pain

  • sciatica

  • groin pain

  • plantar fasciitis

  • tennis elbow

  • frozen shoulder

  • TMJ

  • pain related to dental work

Although the technique is most commonly used for pain relief, Beth has also successfully used PNT in the treatment of infertility, GERD and other gastrointestinal issues, anxiety, PTSD, urinary incontinence, and hypertension.
